WHAT?

Church Wide Fast- corporately setting aside a time to deny the flesh (human appetites) and instead spend time with God in prayer, worship, etc.

HOW LONG?

40 days (May1-June 9) or a portion of those 40 days

Examples:

1. True 40 day water only fast
2. 40 day partial fast (eliminating one meal a day for 40 days)
3. 1 or 3 day water only fast
4. 10 day vegetable only fast
5. 3-40 day no TV, Facebook, Coffee, iPhone, anything else you can think of that you feel you “HAVE TO HAVE” fast

WHY?

Before we had our first service back on Easter 2008, we prayed and fasted for His vision, His direction, and His provision. He certainly answered, and the work He began continues to this day. We feel He has brought us to a season where some major decisions need to be made. Instead of just trying to figure it out in our own human effort, we feel God calling us to set aside 40 days (much like Moses) to set the flesh aside and press into Him like never before. A time of intimacy and expectancy with our great God. We are trusting that He will give us clarity on next steps as we seek Him with all of our hearts. And more importantly, fall more in love with Jesus.

WHAT TO REMEMBER?

1. Consult a physician before participating
2. Make sure you know God is leading you to do it
3. As much as you can, keep it between you and God (see Matthew 6:16-18)

We encourage the whole church to pray and ask God what He would lead them to do. Remember this is not religion, but relationship. This is not legalism, it’s practicing what the Bible says. So let’s together kill the flesh, strengthen the Spirit, and press into Jesus like never before! Oh, and by the way, we’ll conclude the fast on June 9th which happens to be our first baptism of the summer!
